What is cloud computing?
Cloud computing is the real time access to resources, services, storage servers and applications across the Internet with cost efficiency.
Is cloud computing a new technology per se? In other words, what are the unique technology features of cloud computing, if any?
It is not a new technology however; it is improved with better features.
These features include:
- Does not require high maintenance.
- On demand
- Access availability (if Interne connection is provided)
- Pay as you go model.
- Redundancy to improve data recovery.
What are the three major cloud service models?
- Software as a service (SaaS): provides applications requested by the user over the Internet.
- Infrastructure as a service (IaaS): when requested by the user it allows access to cloud servers and networks or storage.
- Platform as a service (PaaS): on demand allowing the user the ability to use application programming.
Name at least 3 real-world domains where the application of cloud computing was (or can be) very enabling and effective.
- Photo editing: additional features are added that can help improve the quality of the image and make is less complicated to edit.
- Healthcare: used for easier access to the database to get patients information.
- Data storge and Backup: in case data is lost or corrupt it was be recovered as it is stored on multiple Internet connected servers.
- Anti-virus: for protection against access by unauthorised users
What is the economic/business model of cloud computing?
It is construed around the pay as you go model, which involves allowing the user to pay for only the recourses and services they consumed. (All About the Economics of Cloud Computing, n.d.)
