Major computer security incidents that have happened in Qatar:

Qatar National Bank

On April 26, 2016, Qatar National Bank suffered for a data leak up to 1.4 GBs appeared to comprise internal corporate files as well as sensitive financial data for QNB clients. The breach consists of 15,460 files holding information for hundreds of thousands of bank customers' accounts, including passwords, PINs, and payment card data. Through the analysis of the leaked data, they believed it was valid. However, a researcher tested the released data and discovered that the bank's systems transmitted a one-time password to the customer's phone number, which would serve as a deterrent to anyone who would now attempt to conduct fraud using the exposed data. Therefore, an investigation was opened by QNB, but further details were not revealed.


Qatar News Agency

On May 23, 2017, the Qatar News Agency was hacked causing their website to be unavailable for several hours and proceeded to release false statements using the new agency’s Twitter account. This was during the start of the blockade therefore it would impact the relationship of Qatar and its supporting countries as well as the people living in Qatar. It was investigated by the Government Communications office (GCO) and the FBI. The Ministry of Interior published a statement on the preliminary findings of the investigation into the hack on June 7th. It revealed that hackers used highly complex tactics to exploit a cyber-bug in the QNA website.
